Bronze casting...a special allure; an ageless art; a dedicated skill.

The casting of bronze is the earliest example of man's mastery over the basic elements of nature. The blending of copper and tin to yield bronze occurred over 5000 years ago, and it was a momentous event which gave its name to an age lasting three and a half millennia until the discovery of iron smelting.

In bronze, man had an alloy that was stronger and infinitely more durable than either of its components; capable of being fashioned into limitless forms -- weapons, household utensils, jewelry, tools, coins and priceless works of art. Countless examples of bronze artifacts have endured to this day, even from the earliest period of bronze casting. This is because bronze possesses a characteristic in common with the "noble metals": the elements of gold and silver. Like them bronze is stable and no longer subject to deterioration once it has formed a natural patina (an alteration in surface color, ranging from jade green to deep brown, signifying the alloy's "maturation").

Unlike copper alone, and certainly iron, bronze will not rust away. In modern times iron, steel alloys and aluminum have all replaced bronze in most commercial applications. Yet bronze remains the metal of choice for creative artisans in metal. A 5,000-year tradition is part of the reason. The ageless endurance of bronze is another and then there is the sublime beauty of metal; natural or chemically induced earth-toned patinas of richness, depth and variety; yet when polished, a surface that shimmers with the warm radiance of gold. Bronze has rightfully earned its place as the premier metal with which artists and craftsmen express their highest aspirations and achievements.
